Geocache Description:

[Estonian] (scroll down for English)

Ühtlasi saavad Raekoja platsilt alguse vanalinna vanimad tänavad: Apteegi, Dunkri, Kinga, Kullassepa, Saiakang, Vanaturu kael, Voorimehe, Raekoja.

  • Foto tagaplaanil on üks neljast ülalnimetatud kirikutornist.

Logidesse võib alati lisada ka muid pilte Tallinna vanalinnast, aga aardeleiuks piisab ühest nõuetele vastavast fotost. Pimedas on kõlbuliku pildi saamine raskem, kuid hea kaameraga siiski võimalik.

Jõuluturu ajal või ka mõnedel Raekoja platsil toimuvatel üritustel võib nullpunkti peale olla püstitatud ajutine ehitis. Sel juhul on aktsepteeritav foto tegemine nullile lähimast võimalikust punktist, kus üks kirikutornidest veel pildile jääks.

[English]

On the ground at ground zero, there is a stone disk with compass bearings and the text "Raekoja platsil asus vana Tallinna nullpunkt" - may not be visible with snow cover. The text translates to "Zero point of old Tallinn was located on the Town Hall Square". That is the place determining house numbering direction in all streets of Tallinn. Town Hall Square is also the starting point of the oldest streets in Tallinn: Apteegi, Dunkri, Kinga, Kullassepa, Saiakang, Vanaturu kael, Voorimehe, Raekoja.

Standing at the published coordinates, in addition to Town Hall tower, from the exact same spot you should see broaches of four different churches: Niguliste, Toomkirik, Pühavaimu ja Oleviste. Find them all and take a photo (or ask someone to do it for you), meeting the following conditions:

  • Camera or yourself are on top of the engraved plate at ground zero.
  • Foreground of the photo shows part of you and/or GPS device.
  • At least one of the four church broaches mentioned above is visible in the photo background (note: town hall building is not a church).

You are welcome to share more pictures from the old Tallinn, one photo matching all of the above conditions will be enough to log a find though. Getting an acceptable shot in the dark can be difficult, but definitely possible with a good camera.

During Tallinn Christmas Market or some other events held on the Town Hall Square, temporary structures may be placed on top of the engraved stone disk. In that case it is acceptable to take a photo from the closest possible location to ground zero, where one of the church broaches would be visible in the picture.
