Geocache Description:

So many great spots along the Torrens River linear park so here's another traditional in one of the historical parts of the area.

History of TTG & the N/E #7. House Boord.

The Boord family was one of the first families in the Tea Tree Gully settlement, consequently producing several sources that often mention the “Boord brothers”, and most notably Alexander Frederick Boord.
Alexander, who married Julia Blunt, became a prominent figure in Tea Tree Gully history, being a member of the first council of Tea Tree Gully, and an original shareholder of the East Torrens Winemaking and Distillation Company, established in 1858.

Alexander was known to have established a farm with his brother Septimus on section 810, Hundred of Yatala, and later bought neighbouring section 809. The farm, Freshford, would become a renowned estate for its beautiful gardens and orchards.

The land was inherited by Alexander’s daughter, Alice, following his death in 1896, but was subdivided and put up for sale that same year. A number of advertisements in newspapers often appealed for gardeners, and orchardists to buy parts of the property. In later years, the majority of the original homestead was destroyed, and replaced with large cool storage sheds for fruit and processing.

What remained of the house was integrated into the structure and function of the storage sheds, providing an additional storage space in the cellar.
