Come join forces with regular volunteers of the Palos Restoration Project to remove non-native plants in a section of McClaughry Springs preserve. Meet at designated coordinates for parking at 9 a.m. from where a steward will lead us to the work area and provide instructions. Equipment will be provided.
The goal of habitat restoration is to increase bio-diversity in the preserves - a greater variety of plants will support a more diverse insect, bird, and mammal population. Invasive plants, often not native to Illinois, can take over an area and crowd out the native plants that once grew there. It takes a focused effort to remove the invaders and give the original inhabitants a fighting chance at survival.
Dress appropriately: long pants and sleeves and sturdy shoes. Bring your own gloves if you prefer.
I will provide bottled water.
