Geocache Description:

The 2017 Kirk Hanson Park and Woodbury County Preserve CITO Event will be held Saturday September 30.

Kirk Hanson Park is host to batting cages and three area that have little league baseball diamonds. It is bordered by part of the Woodbury County Preserve. The preserve was established in the early to mod 1990's to help maintain green space in the community.

There are several geocache;s hidden in Kirk Hanson Park and the Woodbury County Preserve. The park is nestled up against the western edge of the preserve.

Over the years articles of trash have been blown in by the wind left there by people and even disposed of on purpose. There are fairly large items that do not belong and even tires. These need to be cleaned up and disposed of properly.

This area is very large and will take a crew of at least 5 people to clean it up. The more that volunteer the better. If enough attend they can be broken up into work crews and each take a specific section of the park and preserve.

Because this area is so large the CITO event time is from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm or when we are done cleaning up all the trash, which ever comes first. If we are still working at noon we can break for lunch and regroup back at the park and preserve to continue. If we are done before noon we can go somewhere for lunch and to talk about geocaching, or anything else. Each individual will be responsible for buying their lunch.

There will be ice filled coolers with bottles of cold water. But please bring your own drink if you wish. If anyone wants to bring a cooler with drinks such as Gatorade for others please feel free to do so.

It is recommended for those attending the event to bring work gloves and wear jeans or long pants that do not snag and can easily become damaged. You may also want to wear cotton t-shirt that is comfortable and breathable that you don't mind getting dirty. You will need and should wear full shoes that cover you entire feet. Please refrain from wearing sandals, flip flops, etc. If you have work boots that is recommended as well, you do not need steel toe work boots or shoes. You may also want to bring any type of tool that will make it easy to pick up the trash and deposit it in the large orange garbage bags that will be provided by the City of Sioux City. There will be some tools available for use to help make the clean up/pick up easier. There will be a few rakes and other tools to help get the trash out of the hrder to reach areas in the grass, weeds and trees.Where necessary we will pstage the trash into pile before putting into the orange bags to make it easier to gather.

If you can only come out and donate an hour of your time that is perfectly fine. If you wish to stay the entire time and until the work is done that is great too.

Please bring your spouses, significant others and kids to help clean up this awesome park and preserve.

The terrain can be challenging especially when walking up into the preserve area. The area may also have noxious plants/weeds and the possibility of ticks.

There is parking available at various areas through out the park.

In the unlikely event of inclement weather the alternate date will be October 1, 2017.

For anyone who attends this CITO event Geocaching HQ will give you a special souvenir. But please come out and do this for more than the souvenir. Our community leaders and law enforcement allow us to place our geocaches without much trouble. The least we can do is help support them and our community by helping to keep it clean.
