Just up the Avon River from Stratford-upon-Avon is its less famous sister city, Stratnotford-upon-Avon. Here there was never a ford across the river, not even in Roman times. No, here they decided to get with the program and put a bridge in right at the beginning. That original bridge has stood the test of time and still stands.
