Geocache Description:

This is an easy puzzle for those who don't like puzzles to educate you about the history of Tanners Falls.

Tanners Falls is one of the many gems hidden away in Wayne County.  It is located on state game lands and open to the public during day light hours.  The first day of trout season it is a busy place. I’ve talked to people, from quite far away, who have come here specifically for opening day.  Local people come here just to sit on the rocks, picnic, hang out and enjoy the view.  Generations have come here, some to party after hours.  A number of people who are currently in their 90’s have told me that they remember it fondly from their youth.  I have also had the pleasure of spending many happy hours here.

What people may not know is that in addition to a Tannery and Saw Mill, Tanners Falls was once an active small community with a store, Post Office, school and living quarters.

The bridge across the falls has been closed to vehicular traffic since approximately 1997.  In 2015 the bridge was also closed to pedestrian traffic.  Consequently, the ONLY way to reach this cache is to go North from Honesdale on 191, and then follow Dug Road & Upper Woods Road. This will bring you to a narrow dirt road up to parking at the falls.  It is not accessible in the winter.  No matter what your GPS tells you, you cannot get here on Kilroe Road. It dead ends after ½ mile and has been closed for about 25 years.
