Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Blamey Drive Cliffs geocache.

Melton has several housing subdivisions with themed names. There is a racehorse section (including namesakes of Melbourne Cup winners Galilee Blvd. and Rimfire Ct.); a European colonial explorers section (including Hume Ave. and Flinders Rd.); and a birds section (including Penguin St. and Tern Ct.). Not far from the European colonial explorers section is the Australian army generals section in Melton South. There are 18 streets named after Australian army generals. The longest street is named after Sir Thomas Albert Blamey, GBE, KCB, CMG, DSO, ED (24th January 1884 - 27th May 1951) who was an Australian general of the First and Second World Wars and the only Australian to attain the rank of field marshal.

Blamey Drive, is about 1 km long and runs more or less parallel with the much longer Toolern Creek as it meanders southward to its confluence with the Werribee River at Exford. In a few places the creek has cut through the bedrock laid down by lava flows. In the process some sheer cliffs have been created.

In this section of Blamey Drive there are safety barriers to prevent cars being driven off the road and falling about five metres to the creek below. A pedestrian safety fence runs along the path between the road and the cliffs. Do not climb over the fence.

There are cracks and a few cavities in the cliff rocks. One of these cavities holds the Blamey Drive Cliffs geocache. Walk to the south end of the pedestrian safety fence and begin your search at the Trail Head waypoint. When you get to GZ you will have to shift your altitude .

Please remember that we are talking about real cliffs. They aren't very high cliffs, but nevertheless there is a possibility that you could fall while looking for this cache. Nobody is forcing you to do this. Be careful. If you fall it's your own fault. While we're at it, please watch out for prickles and snakes- just in case.

The Blamey Drive Cliffs geocache is a Regular-sized, screw-top plastic container with a log, a pen and a pencil, a FTF prize and some swag. Please replace the lid correctly and put the cache back as you found it. This will increase the longevity of the cache.

Safe roadside parking is available near GZ.
