This is the first cache of the Tour de Austria team. We’re
very excited about it and hope it’s not too difficult to
find, as we are a group of recreational mountain hikers.
Please do not start this journey unprepared, you need a good
pair of shoes, food, and at least one liter of water per
person.
The coordinates above bring you to a parking lot just outside
the beautiful village of Maria Alm. Next you have to go to the
beginning of the trail, which is located at N47° 24.277 E12°
53.982. From there you follow the signs to Gasthaus (Gh.)
Hinterreit (N47° 24.269 E12° 53.515). Gh. Hinterreit is the last
place where you can eat or drink something. Remember, you now have
traveled less than 10% of the total journey!
The total route is an official hiking route, which is marked by
red and white paint on trees, stones and signs. From now on, follow
the signs indicating “Schalbenwand 446”. You walk
around Gh. Hinterreit and pass through a wooden gate, going through
a meadow, towards the woods. In the woods, the only way is up as
for most of the trail. At N47° 23.865 E12° 53.303, follow the sign
“Hoferpl.” or “Schalbenwand”. The next
waypoint is N47° 22.601 E12° 52.287, a small cabin, with a bench,
where you can sit and eat some food you brought. From here
it’s less then 1 hour to the Schwalbenwand. Once you reach
the summit, there’s a small box with a logbook inside
attached at the cross. On this box, you’ll find 8 digits,
consisting of a year and an altitude. Please write down the digits
from left to right below.

(1) = ...
(2) = ...

The final coordinates, where the cache is hidden, can be made by
filling in the right number (digit) in the coordinates below:
N47° (3)(5).(7)(2)1
E12° 5(6).(8)(8)(2)
The cache is a white semi-transparent box with a blue cover. Happy
hunting!
