This is the upper end of an old stripping pit that at one time was home to many motorcycle trails and hill climbs. It is located along the old landfill. Most of the pit is filled in from waste material from the nearby CO-Gen electrical generation plant. The Northern end has been left basically untouched from the time when the anthracite coal was removed via strip mining procedure.
Strip mining is the removal of the top overburden material to access the anthracite coal deep underneath without going under ground to retrieve.
This cache was placed in a location I frequented as a kid. The area seems to lack caches so while out on a hike with my son through my old stomping grounds I decided to place a quick cache for others to see this location. There are some pretty good views from ground zero.
