Like all cities Hull has its fair share of connections to famous people and events. The city has of course highlighted it's links to people such as Amy Johnson and William Wilberforce, but there are many more which have not been as well promoted.
Often times these are small connections that might make interesting facts or conversation starters, like that J. R. R. Tolkien spent some time in and around Hull, or that the fictional Robinson Crusoe set sail from Queens Dock (now Queens Gardens). Even the humble boiled sweet comes from Hull.

John Venn
Perhaps best known for creating the Venn Diagram, John Venn was born in the Drypool area of Hull in 1834, which is just across the bridge from the cache.
During his lifetime Venn was both a mathematician and a priest. He developed the Venn diagram while at Cambridge University
As part of Hull City of Culture 2017 Drypool bridge was repainted to reflect the city's links with the famous mathematician.
