Geocache Description:

When I was a kid, I was disappointed if the featured Stooge short for that day was one in which Shemp Howard was the third stooge. But now I have a new found respect for the man, stepping in as he did after the debilitating stroke of his brother Curly.

What I have found out about the Shemp era of The Three Stooges is that all of the shorts produced in the 1940s were remade in the 1950's using lots of stock footage from previous shorts. It was a cost cutting measure used back in the day that mostly fooled all of us young viewers. This short, Husbands Beware, was recycled from another short, Brideless Groom, with what I estimate is around 50 percent of the same footage. (I actually watched them simultaneously).

So in this new series, I now give you a simple traditional cache (GC7C8CZ It's A Shemp! Brideless Groom), and this companion mystery cache, for which you can determine the coordinates using information from clips of both shorts and some field information.

First of all, from Wikipedia:

Husbands Beware is the 167th short film released by Columbia Pictures in 1956 starring American slapstick comedy team  The Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Shemp Howard). The comedians released 190 short films for the studio between 1934 and 1959.

The Plot:

Moe and Larry marry Shemp's overweight sisters (Lou Leonard and Maxine Gates), and discover to their horror after the vows that the girls are a couple of battle axes. After being kicked out from their place, the new bridegrooms vow revenge on Shemp for introducing them. Later, Shemp has a voice lesson with student, Fanny Dinkelmeyer since he is a music teacher. He then discovers that he has to marry a woman within seven hours to receive $500,000 from his dead Uncle's will.

After some searching, the Stooges finally find Shemp's student, Ms. Dinkelmeyer. Several of Shemp's old ex-girlfriends all arrive at the Justice of the Peace's office, wreaking havoc in an attempt to marry Shemp for his money. But Shemp weds the harridan, just under the deadline, and then discovers that there is no dead Uncle or will, and that everything was Moe and Larry's revenge because Shemp let Moe and Larry marry his two overweight sisters and got divorced. Shemp gets so angry, he takes out a gun and shoots Moe and Larry in the rear end as they try to flee.

Trivia:

The second half of Husbands Beware is stock footage from 1947's Brideless Groom. In the new footage of the wedding sequence, a double stands in for Dee Green (Fanny Dinkelmeyer). The new scenes were filmed on May 17, 1955.
