You will learn many features of an older forest.
Please stay on trails until within 50 feet of cache as this is a natural site with minimal human disruption desired. There is a variety of wildlife to be seen including deer and bear. Also keep an eye open for evidence of lightning strikes and storm damage showing the power of nature. You will be looking for a carton with a red lid.
As you walk from the parking area to this cache, the dynamics of this Northern Hardwood forest will change. Notice
- the different species of trees; less American Beech and Witch Hazel, more Northern Red and White Oak
- tree trunks of larger diameter
- less abundant underbrush
Tree stumps are evidence that this forest was originally logged out by man. This forest section has trees up to and older than 200 years old.
