100年以上前の九州最古級鉄道遺跡で、
岡垣町の指定文化財です。
Kyushu's oldest railway ruins about 100 years ago from now,
It is designated cultural asset of Okagaki-machi.
実際に、この赤レンガの上を機関車が通っていました。
1890年にＪＲの前々身である九州鉄道が、
黒崎から赤間までの鉄道開通時に建造したもので、
ドイツ人技師により、
イギリス積み工法で設計・建造しました。
宗像市と岡垣町との境にある城山にトンネル
が開通したことにより、廃線となった遺構です。
すぐ近くを現役路線が通りすぎます。
The train actually passed on this arch.
In 1890, JR 's predecessor, the Kyushu Railway, constructed this
when the railroad was opened from Kurosaki to Akama.
It was designed and built by the German engineer
in the British Greek loading method.
