On the Way to Mt. Umunhum Traditional Geocache

I took the day off work to check on some of my caches and hike the new trail to Mt. Umunhum. What a beautiful trail it is!! The summit is 3.7 miles from the Bald Mountain parking lot, with 1,150 feet of elevation gain, but the trail is so nicely graded and well constructed that it's a very pleasant hike. And the views are amazing, both from the trail and the summit! 

This cache is in a large cleared area about a mile up from the Bald Mountain parking lot. Just follow the signs for the Mt. Umunhum trail. From this point, you get your first direct view of The Cube up close! Wow! This spot also has huge views of the valley below. 

You're looking for a small lock & lock container within six feet of the locked gate. (On the legal side, of course.) There's no need to leave the clearing or go into the bushes at all. If you need a rest, I recommend sitting down on the rock with a big lichen in the middle. You can reach the cache from there. 

Sierra Azul OSP is open half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Enjoy the new trail!
