The Veterans Memorial Mural was painted in 2014 by John De Matos, David Mercer, and Jesom, who painted the East 6th Avenue side of the building, and Nick Gregson, who painted the Commercial Drive side. Many of the people depicted in the mural are members of this legion, including the veterans shown in uniform in the upper right section of the mural.
Final coordinates: N 49° AB.CDE W 123° 0F.GHI
Near the bottom left corner of the mural, there's a yellow banner with the name and number for this legion branch. It says: Grandview-Collingwood Branch ___. Subtract 2 from the middle digit, then take the resulting three-digit number as ABC.
To the right of the banner, there's a group of people playing soccer. How many players are there? Take this number as F.
On the right side of the mural, a group of First Nations people are fishing in the river. How many fishers are there? Take this number as E.
Between the veterans and the historical figures on the right side of the mural, there is a yellow banner with the dates of six conflicts:
BOER WAR 1899-19_2
WWI 1914-1918
WWII 1939-1945
KOREA 1950-1953
PEACEKEEPING MISSION 1956
AFGHANISTAN 2002-201_
You'll need to fill in the two blanks. Take the blank digit for the Boer War as D and the blank digit for Afghanistan as G.
Walk around to the Commercial Drive side of the building, painted by East Van local Nick Gregson. You'll see poppies, the phrase "LEST WE FORGET", and a veteran and his shadow. You'll also the street number for the building: 22__. Take the last two digits as HI.
Once again, the final coordinates are: N 49° AB.CDE W 123° 0F.GHI
