"Shunpiking" (verb: traveling by avoidance of major highways in preference for bucolic and scenic interludes along lightly traveled country roads)
Nova Scotia & the Maritimes are a Canadian destination for visitors seeking beaches, picture post card scenery, and everything a rural countryside has to offer. It’s also famous for its back country heritage roads, and most visitors make it a point to get off the beaten path and explore these hidden areas – to go “shunpiking”. Often slower, longer, and poorer road conditions, these back roads will take you to areas that are “short on use, but long on solitude and discovery”.
This cache series salutes the “back road”. The small-sized, winter-friendly containers are located down mainly dirt roads that may or may not be maintained during the winter and may be very muddy in the spring and after rain. The dirt roads are excellent for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing during the winter. Little or no bushwhacking is required.
The caches are not suitable for swag and you must bring your own writing instrument.
