Geocache Description:

Arriving on a distant shore, Arthur and Merlin made their way through an ancient forest. Crossing over hills and valleys, they eventually came to the top of a peak. Looking out on the beautiful view, Arthur held the sword one last time and remarked, "This sword has been in my family for more generations then I can count. It has protected this land from many foes and brought peace to the country. But throughout my life, I have not found any happiness while I held it in my possession."

Eyeing Arthur sadly, Merlin held out his hand to Arthur. "I am sorry, my friend. I never wished for you to carry this burden. I suppose the sword chose you. Those who sought to wield it were unfit, but only one with a heart pure and true was truly worthy to carry it." Arthur handed Merlin the sword and together they placed it within a secret place, far from where anyone would find it. With the sword protected and their mission complete, Arthur collapsed with exhaustion.

Walking back through the forest, Arthur felt the years of worry and trouble melt away. As he walked, the magic of the enchantment continued, and he found himself getting younger. As the darkness began to fade, he saw the brightness of the forest once again. Looking up at Merlin he remembered all they had been through and asked, "Was it worth it?" Merlin sort of chuckled and said, "With you, my friend, yes, I would do it all again in a heartbeat."

The sword was kept in Arthur's family for over twenty generations. After Arthur and Merlin passed, their story became a fairy tale and, in time, a legend. Although there were many kings who later ruled the land, it was said none ruled with more integrity, compassion, and love for the people than King Arthur. The Legend of the Sword eventually passed into obscurity and many forgot about the story of King Arthur and the wizard Merlin. For those who do remember, though, it was said that hidden within the family crest were clues to finding the treasure, but only one who had walked in the footsteps of Arthur and Merlin could find the sword, the Glory of Pendragon.
