Geocache Description:

The cache is placed at the SW end of the tarn therefore the recommended starting position is from Mitterdale a great walk can be had by heading NE over Tongue Moor and returning along the valley bottom in the company of the river Mite.

Burmoor tarn is one of the largest tarn in the Lakes only Devoke water and Seathwaite tarn are bigger though how they are measured is a mystery,Seathwaite tarn is longer than the other 2 but not as wide and looking at the OS map they look very similar in size, is the overall circumference taken into account or is it the depth and volume of water anyway who cares,Burnmoor tarn is 42 feet deep whereas Devoke water is 46 feet and Seathwaite tarn nearly 80 feet, anyway a good job that hardly anyone reads the cache description these days after that load of waffle! just enjoy a great walk, the head of Mitterdale is a wondrous place and will only be seen if walking up or descending to the valley of Mitterdale. Warning if the kind of caches which you prefer are drive bys you might want to stick this one on your ignore list.
