The Ystradgynlais area has, perhaps surprisingly, very good habitats for wildlife and a number of rare species of plants, insects, reptiles etc can be seen if you are quiet. 100 years ago this area was the hotbed of the Industrial Revolution with coal mines scarring the countryside and iron works belching out smoke and steam. How quickly nature has reclaimed the land!
Diamond Park
Arguably the town developed as a result of the heavy industries of coal and iron. The sites of the Diamond and Gurnos coal mines have now been cleared and the landscaped area redeveloped into parkland as Diamond Park. the park is maintained by Ystradgynlais Town Council.
Adjacent to the Diamond Park is the Wern Plemys Nature Reserve maintained by the Brecknock Wildlife Trust
These colourful red and green moths are often seen in numbers on yellow or purple flowers during the day. The paths in Diamond Park are mainly wheelchair accessible but some have significant slopes. This cache is near the entrance and can be done as a cache and dash. The path is level however wheelchair users may need assistance to retrieve and replace the container.
Please leave the information cards in the containers when you have signed the log and replace carefully as you found it.
Well done to WELSHMAN65 on being First to Find.
