Geocache Description:

A remote and hidden valley in eastern Wairarapa. There are already a few geocaches on this remote rural road but since you are so far from home, I have added four more caches to make the journey worthwhile. Bring a pen. No shops to buy one out this way.

Gladstone is a lightly populated locality in the Carterton District of New Zealand's North Island, located on the Mangahuia Stream near where the Tauweru River joins the Ruamahanga River. The nearest town is Carterton 15 kilometres to the northwest, and nearby settlements include Ponatahi to the west and Longbush to the south. It was named after British Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone, considered one of Britain's greatest prime ministers. Admiral Hill is way out in the boonies south-east of Gladstone. You will know when you have arrived as you will be the only living person in sight.

At times it can be busy. The New Zealand Cycle Classic passed by here in 2016. The highest point on the race was Admiral Hill in Gladstone at 495m above sea level.

Admiral Station is in a picturesque side valley off the main highway that follows the ridgeline to Martinborough. As you enjoy the sweeping gravel bends and lovely grass covered central road markings, you will come to appreciate the grandeur of this rural setting. There are plenty of kowhai in flower, old totara trees as well as a selection of fine old English trees to remind you of Gladstone's home country. It quickly becomes obvious that this road was built for geocaching. Here you will encounter some skinny versions of the iconic cabbage tree. These will guide you close to the cache.
