kunarion: Maybe I'm a mess, maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm out of my mind… but, God help me I will keep these lights up until the day I die, if I think there’s any chance that he's still out there.

Geocache Description:

Solve a mystery and find Walter!

Stranger Finds:
Maybe you remember the story years ago of Walter Bon, the kid who vanished near McCurry Swamp. Other people have gone missing in the swamp over the years, and there are rumors of big creatures, and a secret government facility. I think I've figured out part of the mystery, so I hope you can help me, because nobody believes me.

I found various items, pictures and notes, in a box with unfamiliar markings, with newspaper articles about Walter Bon and McCurry Park. A note says to not go alone, and to find the “bird”. Then it says you need boots for mud and water, and also a flashlight, but to go only in the daytime, not at night. There are the numbers “35-XX-XX”, like it's for a combination lock with only the first number, and next two numbers missing! And it says to use the “eye”. And then it says to “follow the bell”, but to hear a bell you will certainly have to go when it's quiet and there are no lawnmowers nor soccer games nearby at the time.

I posted GPS coordinates that lead to a good starting point. Is this enough to find Walter? The article says he was last seen wearing a red shirt and blue jeans, and his favorite baseball cap.

Important: There is a bird house puzzle box at the posted coordinates, a "field puzzle". The Final stage is in a different place, a short walk, which you can find after you work the puzzle. You must find and sign the log book at the Final stage, to get the Smilie. A signed slip of paper at the bird house doesn't count.

There's a puzzle to solve after you arrive. It involves figuring out a lock combination. There's the need for a flashlight (such as a flashlight App on a phone), the only special equipment you may need. There's a clue about an “eye” and a “bell”, all part of the puzzle. I think this could be found even if it's just one person searching. You may be walking around in mud or water while working on this. Please tread lightly, be careful that nothing gets broken so the cache remains viable for others. If there are any problems, contact me directly. Don't post hints or spoilers here, but photos at the Final are OK.

This park is open from dawn to dusk. The bird house was hand made by BUGGO49. Thanks, Buggo!
