[ITA] A Montaiate si trovava una suggestiva rocca arroccata su un monte ricoperto di vegetazione, di cui oggi restano due ruderi: una bella torre cilindrica e un possente muraglione attraversato dai resti di finestre, arciere e feritoie.
Il luogo è veramente singolare ed offre un vasto panorama sulla valle del Cinisco, nel tratto fra Frontone e Pergola. Montaiate visse la sua storia all’ombra della vicina Pergola ma è un castello più antico, si hanno infatti sue notizie sin dal 1113 mentre Pergola fu fondata prima del 1230. Furono uomini di Gubbio a dare vita a Pergola e Montaiate contribuì a quelle vicende sia partecipando alla difesa dei lavori che venivano sanguinosamente ostacolati dai cagliesi, sia favorendo il popolamento della città. Motaiate da parte sua si legò a Pergola attraverso una cessione avvenuta nel 1234 con cui si contribuì a costruire la città. Con quello di Fenigli, Montaiate è il castello più alto (615) appollaiato sulla cima di una collina. La rocca che risale al secolo XI è purtroppo cadente. Sono ancora in piedi alcuni muri perimetrali e la base del maschio. Venne ampliata dal cardinal Albornoz nel XIV secolo e in quello successivo da Federico da Montefeltro. Attorno ad essa si è sviluppato un piccolo centro urbano ora pressoché disabitato. La chiesa è dedicata a Santa Giustina. Si hanno notizie di Montaiate a partire dal 1132.
