Geocache Description:

Cremona has had a curling rink since the early 50’s and is still a popular winter activity for the locals.

A group of volunteers were looking for a sport in the community for winter and although most did not know how to play the game, they worked together to build the first curling rink at the cost of about $800.

By 1958, the current curling rink was built at the cost of about $8000 just south of the baseball diamond.  And by 1962, they invested in artificial ice for the rink.

The lounge extension was added in the early 80’s after the curling club organized a $100/plate dinner party to raise funds for it. The fundraiser event has become an annual fundraiser for the curling club and still occurs to this day.

The Curling club has many leagues for men and women, young and old. Several bonspiels occur each year during the curling season where competition and friendships are formed. At season’s end of the Ladies bonspiel, the women curlers have a fun time putting on a live show for many of the female curlers from various towns in Alberta.

The curling club exists with thanks to those early volunteers who put the effort into setting up the curling rink 60 years ago and all of the volunteers who help each and every year to keep the curling club and ice as smooth as… well… ice!
