A multi-cache placed within the grounds of Belton House, which is now owned by the National Trust. The cache is only accessible during normal opening hours of the gardens. Entry is free for National Trust members but non-members are required to pay an admission fee. Please check opening times and current admission charges (see Related Web Page for opening times and fees)
Entry to the House is not required to find the cache
This cache has been placed to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the book 'Moondial' written by local author Helen Cresswell after visiting Belton House. In the story, the main character is called Minty; she comes to stay with her Aunt Mary who lives in Belton Village. Many of the places described in the book are still here today - this gives you the chance to follow in Minty's footsteps as you walk around the gardens.
The start point is the car park where you register!
This multi-cache is a nice and easy way of exploring part of the gardens whilst at Belton House. The questions are easy and so might be good to keep the geo-kids occupied...
The waypoints can be done in any order - you decide!
Checksum: A+B+C+D+E+F+G = 57
The Final Co-ordinates are N52 56. VW W00 37. XYZ
Where:
V = C
W = F + G
X = D
Y = B
Z = E - A
When you reach the gz:
"OPEN THE DOORS AND LOCATE THE CACHE!"
Please be aware - If you don't sign the logbook, or don't reply to my messages to confirm your find, your log will be deleted.
Please bear in mind that parts of the gardens are Grade I listed, so objects like the urns, statues, and topiary (yes, really!) are not robust enough for geo-kids to climb on any more! There is an excellent Adventure Play Area in another part of the grounds.
*IMPORTANT NOTE* COVID-19 UPDATE It is recommended that you have hand sanitiser with you for caching. Also be aware of the possible restricted opening times of both Belton House grounds and the shops/restaurant - REMEMBER, you may require a mask when entering any indoor spaces.
The cache has been placed with the kind permission of the National Trust.
!!! Congrats to GMPB for being FTF!!!
