Geocache Description:

Located just off the trail in an ammo can. Please sign the log and replace as found. There is a stamp provide if you are participating in our Geotour. This is our first Preserve and what really started the whole Land Trust ball rolling.

In the 1980's the Land Trust was established as a result of potential development on the western slopes of Monte Sano. The Trust for Public Land worked with the new Land Trust to negotiate the sale of 547 acres on Monte Sano that had been planned for development. This was our first property. Imagine if this was a development?? What a beautiful natural resource would be gone from our city. So many lovely and historic locations on this preserve. We hope to one day build a Nature Educational Center (located right here) to house our office and be a place for the community to visit and learn more about land conservation and then walk out our doors and right on to the trail!

The Land Trust of North Alabama is celebrating 30 years! To help celebrate, we are placing new geocaches on our 7 Land Preserves and on properties we maintain for The Nature Conservancy.

June 24, 1987 the non-profit incorporation papers were signed to establish the first Land Trust in Alabama. Since that day, we have preserved over 6,200 acres and maintain over 62 miles of trails. If you have geocached in Huntsville, you’ve likely found a geocache on one of our properties BUT did you know it was Land Trust property? We are hoping this “tour” will help you put our face to the properties you know and love and show you what’s in the works to get newly donated or purchased properties ready for public use.

Provided under our photos is a “passport” to print and in each geocache you will find a self-inking stamp to use on your passport. We hope you find all our geocaches, but you need to only find 5 to receive our oval Land Trust pathtag. When you have stamped at least 5 on your passport, please bring in your passport to our office at 2707 Artie Street Suite 6 Huntsville, AL 35805 or N 34 42.400 W 86 35.548

This tour will give you an idea of what’s happening at the Land Trust of North Alabama. We are diligently working to preserve green space in North Alabama for public use now and for future generations. Our hope is this tour will educate you on what the Land Trust has been doing for 30 years and our plans for the next 30 years.
