The first community center was also the location of the YMCA. The beautiful grounds were donated by the ITT Community Development Corporation, which was also underwriting the expense of the Y for the first several years. The YMCA did eventually move out. The building was the site of city council meetings and civic associations meetings, as well as the recreation department and youth activities. Currently renovated (2016-17) the building will once again support community organizations. Nestled within Linear Park, this trail system connects to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Intracoastal Waterway trails. As a designated part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, the trail system provides opportunities to view over 40 species of migratory and wading birds such as Snowy Egrets and Little Blue Herons. The trail system includes a series of short walking paths which wind through excellent examples of old Florida habitat.
