Geocache Description:

I wanted to place this cache as part of a memorial to my family and the lifeboatmen who lost their lives in the disaster.

History

The lifeboat station was established in 1858 at the request of the local inhabitants after a wreck had occurred with a looks of a whole crew of a vessel. During the war the lifeboat was launched 48 times and saved 21 lives. In 1830 two gold medals were awarded for gallantary. In 1857 a sailing boat and all her crew were lost off the coast of Hastings. In Hastings we have got two quite old lifeboats one is Priscilla MacBean which is Eastbourne’s sixth Lifeboat it was found in a field in Hailsham. We have also got a boat called The Cyril and Lilian Bishop it was Hastings lifeboat for 19 years for, 1931 till 1950. It saved 34 lives. It also took part in the Dunkirk evacuation which my relative was on and was coxin off. It was Hastings 4th lifeboat and the first one with an engine. If you want to see them look at the waypoints! The cache is a little clear container in a black pouch.
