During the middle of a day on a Saturday in November 2017, I received a call from my good Geocaching friend ecrane.
He had a story and a question. The story came first. Seems he sat down to publish an event and happened to notice that the GC number was GC7EGT2. The last 4 characters were really close to the last 4 initials of my caching name.
Wondering how many caches were being published at that particular time, ecrane made another Geocache request and received a cache with a code of GC7EGT5. It only took a couple of minutes for 2 other caches to be requested.
He began to wonder how often the Geocaching.com website was getting requests for new geocaches. After waiting a couple of excruciating minutes, he submitted another Geocache hide request. GC7EGTA was assigned. That was getting closer. Another minute later, GC7EGTC was delivered.
Should he wait or should he keep submitting as quickly as possible? What the heck, submit again! If he missed it then the story of missing it by "that much" would be good to tell. Going through the process of entering coordinates, selecting the geocache type, and coming up with a bogus description, he anxiously awaited for Geocaching.com to return the result and....GC7EGTH was displayed!
Back to the call...He explained all of this and then offered to adopt it to me if I was interested. Was I ever! While we bounced ideas around during that conversation, it took a while for me to eventually figure out what I wanted to do. And here it is. Or rather, there it is. Way up there. It should be out of reach using your common extendable TOTT so you'll need to find a way to get closer. If you don't see it, then consider looking higher.
