Thank you to cbroomhilda for the original placement of this hide. Here is the original description:
There is space for one car to pull of the NE side of the road, please use caution if making a u-turn here as many people disregard the speed limit when coming over the hill. CC is medium size, room for small swag.
On this site stood the Buckland Town Farm (poor house). If you look closely and take a walk around the area you can see the remnants of the foundation for this old building. It's hard to imagine exactly how the house was positioned since Charlemont Rd seems to cut right throught the house footprint. It is no less hard to imagine that such a place ever existed. This house would also be called the Town Infirmary.
In 1853 the Town of Buckland purchased a farm at this location and used it's old buildings to house 15 "inmates" who were actually just sick, poor or elderly people with no one else to look after them; the town was charged with their care. In 1900 the town voted to build new buildings due to the dilapidated condition of the old ones. In March of 1924 the chimney caught fire and all the buildings were burned down. At that time there was only on person living here so it was decided to sell the land and care for town charges in private homes instead.
