Klapperkop Nature Reserve
This reserve is located next to the R21 highway. It was named after the nearby Fort. Fort Klapperkop is one of four forts built around Pretoria. It was completed in January 1898 and provided an additional defence mechanism. Various pieces of heavy artillery were placed in the fort but it was never fully armoured.
Many cyclists and runners frequent the reserve on a daily basis and requires no entry fees.
Wildlife
Although small mammals like mongoose s, hedgehogs, hares and porcupines are difficult to spot there is evidence that they are present. The bird life is rich. Zebra, blue wildebeest and other game species are being reintroduced to this area.
Vegetation
The unique vegetation of the Klapperkop Nature Reserve is a transition between two veld types, namely grass veld and mixed bushveld.

The cache
The cache will take you on a roughly 300m stroll through the reserve if you make use of the given parking co-ordinates. The container is camouflaged and was hidden between 2 large boulders containing a pen, log book and a few larger toys. It is not covered with rocks - please leave it this way as I do not want the container to be damaged. Please hide it exactly as found!
