A karst is a topography formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. Karst features occur is some types of rocks which are able to be dissolved by the weak acid formed when carbon dioxide (found in the air and soil) combine with water.
Karst are characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves. Karsts can be cylindrical, conical, bowl or dish-shaped. The diametre ranges from a few to many hundreds of meters.
Logging the Cache
Your task is to answer a few simple questions:
1. Looking at the nearby karst, tell me what shape it is.
2. Estimate the diameter (in metres) of the nearby karst.
3. Looking at the nearby karst, describe what you see (layers, colours etc.)
