Welcome to Old Cemetery. This is a cemetery that was not moved when the lake came in and has been left alone for a while.
This is an abandoned cemetery. It is no problem to reach by boat and a little hike. Do not walk the train tracks the track are very active and the banks very steep. There is no public right of way along the tracks. Regardless of what google earth shows walking the tracks is NOT an option. DON'T do it, just get a boat and you can hit a few others on the near by islands at the same time. Since we don't have a boat, we placed the cache by walking along the shoreline. Quite some time and a few geoscars later, we made it, but it was a hike.
This cemetery only has 3 markers that I can still read. It has a dozen or so old sandstone ones that are long since eroded off. It was on property that a friend owned. When he was a kid the family would maintain the graves, trim the trees, and put flowers out on holidays. Some time later the property was taken from them when the lake was made. At that point in time the area was abandoned and they were no longer able maintain it. As far as we can find the name of the cemetery is unknown. When his family referred to it they always just said the Old Cemetery. So no name was ever used. In the cemetery, the few markers we can read are:
James P. Elliott, born Sept. 27, 1855 died Apr. 19, 1861. Gone but not for gotten.
Mary A. Elliott, born Nov. 14 1832, died Apr 19, 1865. Gone but not for gotten.
E. L. S.
Solomon Cole, born Dec. 8, 1833, died Aug. 14, 18??

This cache is located close to the southeast corner of the cemetery. Feel free to explore, but be respectful and careful as some stones are close to the ground.
