Tuscany has many thermal spas. The largest and most famous of them is Montecatini Terme.
Montecatini Terme is a beautiful town that was built around its mineral water springs. The spring water is considered to help people with trouble with the stomach or liver. Healthy people can enjoy the old time grandeur of the town, stroll in the park or enjoy spa treatments in the various hotels.
The most famous spa in town is the Tettuccio Terme located on the main street of Montecatini Terme - Viale Verdi, next to the park.
The Tettuccio Terme was built in the late 18th century by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Leopold of Habsburg - Lorraine, the son of the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa.
The Terme Tettuccio, was originally named "Tettuccio" due to a canopy/roof that once covered the springs (Canopy/roof (EN)=Tetuccio (IT).
The magnificence of a beautiful city was built around them. The frescoes that can be seen in various areas of the Baths are due to the skill of different artists who have given a touch of class to the walls and ceilings.
The best part is that dedicated to the waters renowned for their healing powers and known since Roman times. In fact, thanks to some precious elements, these waters could play a therapeutic function to treat certain diseases.
These waters have origin at 60, 80 feet deep and reach the surface pristine and loaded with minerals. Their power in our body is recognized by the National Health System. You can choose between four different types depending on the effect sought: Tettuccio, Regina, Leopoldina and Refreshments.
