Checking the Checkers Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Auld Pharrrt: I have pretty much moved away from Geocaching mainly due to a lack of mobility and I miss all the friends I made during the time I was active.

I do still have a couple of active caches out there, but I am retiring this one due to lack of interest and the sheer silliness of it all.

For anyone that was interested the solution, as stated, is in plain sight ... CHECK THE CHECKERS ... The red numbers from the first two checkers were what you were seeking, you should have just "Checked the checkers"

I hope a few did enjoy my silly waffling on.

Best wishes, take care and stay safe.

Geocache Description:

My first try at a puzzle cache is an easy T1 but the puzzle is, to the best of my knowledge, original, thus making it a D5, but the number of hints I have added makes it an easy D1. Then, adding all the red herrings and waffle makes it a D5 again, but the fact that the solution is in plain sight makes it an easy D1 again. Although, the confusing way I have added a logic puzzle factor with the checkers makes it a D3. So, for now it is a D5 but I might adjust that as time passes.

As per the title, you will need to find the correct combination of numbers and CHECK them in the geoCHECKERS near the bottom of the page.

Of course, in the true spirit of mystery/puzzle caches, there are a few RED HERRINGS thrown in on the page, a funny username, a strange date (I tried to make it 127A.D., but GS.com wouldn't let me enter an invalid date,) a poke at your VANITY with a few, vaguely subtle, hints at various ciphers like VINeGer, Fairplay, Kamasutra (OOH LA LA) and even some pictures for you to play around with too.  But, since I, personally, am not very fond of really tough puzzles that over tax your brain, or can't be solved out "in the field" so to speak, I will help as much as I can without giving the answer away and I will put the numbers you need in plain view (I will also try to confuse you by waffling on about a load of bullshitzu puppies.)

According to a book I recently read (Cully Long's "How to Puzzle Cache") almost every good mystery cache owner will indicate what you need to find.  OK … Here's what you are looking for … The correct combination of numbers to complete these co-ords N 56 33.??? W003 23.???, which will eventually give you the correct result in an easy, basic, "logic" puzzle when you check them in the Geocheckers below.

Also, according to the book, every good mystery cache owner will indicate to you a vague hint of what it will take to get the solution OK … Here's your hint … The correct solution is when you get the combination of numbers that will result in TWO of the FOUR Geocheckers saying the opposite of the other TWO Geocheckers … In other words, TWO will say CORRECT and TWO will say WRONG.  Contrary to the old adage that TWO wrongs don't make ONE right, in this case they kinda will, well they'll help you find the ONLY CORRECT COMBINATION that will give you the right answer of two wrong and 2 right responses when checked in all four Geocheckers … You know, the CHECK/CROSS marks, the GREEN/RED lights, the THUMBS UP/THUMBS DOWN etc.

Next, according to the book, every good mystery cache owner will supply you with images, then info, maybe even some data and/or some other mis-leading content which will often, but not always, conceal or include what you need, OK …

So, here's a few images to play with:

Some info to peruse:

Puzzle caches, Mystery caches, or Unknown caches are a type of geocache for those who enjoy an extra challenge.

They require geocachers to solve complicated puzzles in order to decode the correct cache coordinates or crack secret clues to unlock a cache’s stash. If you haven’t encountered this kind of cache before the prospect may seem daunting, but have no fear! Puzzle caches are fun way to spice up any geocaching adventure while flexing your beefy brain muscles.

And finally, here is some data for you to check in the Geocheckers:

  1. N 90 00.000 W000 00.000 - The North Pole.

  2. N 00 00.000 W180 00.000 - One of the three points at which the International Dateline crosses the Equator.

  3. S 90 00.000 W000 00.000 - The South Pole.

  4. N 00 00.000 E180 00.000 - The antipode of #2. above.

"None of the above" (to quote the movie Brewster's Millions) will fully give you what you seek, but some of the data I have plastered on the page will help you on your way … you'll know which because when you "Check the Checkers" some will give you a little more info when you put the right wrong answer in the correct place, putting the right wrong answer in the wrong place will simply give you another wrong response … Ok, even I find that confusing, so, as promised I will help you as best I can without revealing the solution … Somewhere above you can find enough numbers to make up quite a few full sets of co-ords, but only two of the combinations, when checked in all FOUR checkers, will give you 1 CORRECT RESPONSE & 3 INCORRECT RESPONSES.  When you find those 2 sets of co-ords you will then have been given TWO more hints, rather vague, but they should help you on your way towards getting the "TWO GREEN LIGHTS" and the "TWO RED LIGHTS" … or whatever you want to call them, correct/wrong responses, thumbs up/thumbs down responses, big green tick/big red cross etc. etc.

Only the final, full set of, coordinates where the physical container is hidden will give you 2 correct responses and 2 incorrect responses when checked in all four checkers.  Everything else will give you either, 1 correct and 3 incorrect or 4 incorrect responses when checked in all four checkers.

And penultimately, a shameless plug to a new Facebook group dedicated to helping any new geocachers who have questions they would like to ask ... experienced cachers are very welcome too, you just might hold the information they seek ... Geocaching - How to ...

Have fun, and pm or email me with the correct co-ords if you want to be added to the list of solvers below:
