Looking at my caching karma recently, combined with my recent (thanks to Geocaching!) love of exploring all the Bay Area trails compelled me to give back. So I'm creating this Johnny Appleseed series, sprinkling caches all along the trails closest to home.
This cache is on Canyon Trail, a lonely little section (1.3 miles) of Stevens Creek County Park, with no caches on it, until now. It is located on the southwest side near the intersection with Stevens Canyon Road. There is no parking on this side of the trail, though there is a little pullout 100 yards north on the road big enough for one car, and more at the Speleothem cache further south (check out that structure!). There is also parking for fee (pay at Chestnut Parking Lot or Launch Ramp at the Reservoir) at the north end of Canyon Trail near 7 Armed Beast. You can also often find free parking on other little turnouts in the roads nearby, though no guarantees. Park hours are 8:00am to sunset.
My GPSr was a bit batty today and coverage is generally bad in this area, so I'm leaving decent location hints in the text. In this case, you should be looking near the big oak that is soaring over the trail. Difficulty rating only because GPS is tough, the hint should guide you if needed. The area in general is covered in pretty ferns - or at least was at the time of placement - hence the name.
Congratulations to Scooter2x2 for the FTF!
Good luck, enjoy the trail, and remember it is good to give back!
