A relatively short multicache that will show you some of the last remnants of some long destroyed South Australian history. Few are aware that SA was a pioneer of railway, the first steel railed line in the southern hemisphere was the Goolwa to Victor Harbour line, which now runs as a tourist train. This lines initial purpose was to service both the whaling industry of the region as well as transporting goods that travelled down from the inland via the Murray river.
This cache and all its associated waypoints, is located along the Westside bikeway and linear park, which follows the path of the old, privately setup Adelaide (North Terrace) to Glenelg Railway, which came into being due to the perceived price gouging by the existing service that ran on what is now the Glenelg Tram. This line ran services from 1880 to 1929, and was transferred into public hands 1924.
At the listed coordinates you will find a sign, on the back of which you will find a number. This represents the distance you need to project from the listed coordinates. I'll leave you to determine the direction! If you guessed right, you'll find yourself at a very appropriate place.
From here, a second (much shorter) projection is needed. To find the final location of the cache, project ab metres at cde degrees, where:
- a = number of italic letters on the 4th line.
- b = number of letters in the 3rd word of the 4th line.
- c = number of words on the 7th line.
- d = number of coat of arms on the plaque.
- e = number of letters in Garth Palmer's title.
Please be gentle when retrieving and replacing the cache. You should be isolated from the view of most muggles and can take your time handling the cache. Good luck!
