Geocache Description:

Deck of Cards Series

I do not save the log sheets from this series. If a log sheet is wet or missing, please feel free to replace it. Thanks.

There are a lot of great caches in Galena. Unfortunately there is limited room for more. But we need more caches for our visitors. My answer is to surround Galena with caches. Project GC tracks caches found by owner. I am working on finding 100 caches from each of 20 owners. I think it is only fair that I have 100 caches for them to find. I need about 50 more hides to end up with over 100 active caches. What is a number around 50? 52 - a Deck of Cards!

I will place caches 4 at a time. I will try to add interesting information about each. All the history in Galena is not in town. I hope you enjoy this series.

This first set is the Aces. These caches are set at crossroads from Stagecoach Trail. At least it is called Stagecoach Trail now. When I was a kid it was the Scales Mound Road. Then for a while it was called the Galena - Lena Road. I know it goes past Scales Mound. You can take it to Lena. I am not so sure how much of it was for Stagecoaches. I do know the Stagecoaches went through Guilford. The common thing about the Aces is that it is possible to get to Guilford by taking any of them. I went to Guilford a lot in my life. My mother was raised on a farm in Guilford Township. Depending on road conditions we used all of these roads on occasion. Now these roads have more usage, not to get to Guilford, these roads can take people to Galena Territory.

This Ace of Hearts is at the intersection of Guilford Road. This is the most direct route to Guilford. At one time the washboards on the hills made it tough to get up. Loose gravel also put many people in the ditch. My little sister was one of them. My friend Tom too. The worst accidents were the head on collisions caused by narrow roads and little hills where it is not possible to see oncoming traffic in time to move over. My aunt had one of them. Of course the road is paved now and much safer, but it is still narrow so watch out when cresting hills.
