This cache is on the newly completed Gembrook to Cockatoo walking trail.
For over a decade there has been a plan to create a walking trail from Emerald to Gembrook, via Cockatoo. The Emerald to Cockatoo part has been open for many years and the final Cockatoo to Gembrook section is now almost complete, and scheduled to be officially opened in January 2018
For a fun family day outing, we suggest parking in Cockatoo near the station or at Alma Treloar Reserve. (For an extra 6.5km and more geocaches, start at Emerald) Then enjoy the 6.5km walk to Gembrook through this wonderful environment. Have lunch in Gembrook and then take the old steam train back to Cockatoo. Check the timetable for full details, but the old steam train usually leaves Gembrook at 2.45pm for the 20 minute return trip to Cockatoo. Please check to confirm all details
Walking Directions from Cockatoo :-
Follow the footpath to and then along Belgrave-Gembrook Road. This turns into the new dirt-stone path at Old Gembrook Road, follow this to Fielder Station. Cross the main road and follow the dirt-stone path along Fielder Road, recross the main road and follow the path to the train line. Then follow the path until Gembrook, watching out for Puffing Billy. Go through the big white gate onto the station grounds and follow this to the Gembrook Puffing Billy Station.
PLEASE NOTE :- None of these geocaches require you to cross a road or the train tracks to collect
The trail does have marked road and rail crossings however, please be careful at these points
This cache is hidden just north of the Gembrook Puffing Billy station, close to the path and the white gate.
Straight after I hid this cache, I waved to everyone sitting with their legs out the windows as the steam train left the station
