Geocache Description:

Bays Mountain Park

Bays Mountain Park, located in beautiful Kingsport, Tennessee, is a 3,550-acre nature preserve and the largest city-owned park in the state of Tennessee. Offering a variety of features, visitors to Bays Mountain Park can enjoy a picturesque 44-acre lake, a Nature Center with a state-of-the-art Planetarium Theater, Animal Habitats featuring wolves, bobcats, raptors and reptiles, and an Adventure Ropes Course complete with a 300-ft. zip line. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the park’s 38 miles of trails for hiking, running, sight-seeing, exploration, mountain biking and geocaching.

Things to know about Bays:

  • There is a $5.00 parking fee per car per day.

  • There are many types of caches in the park, Traditional, Multi, Mystery, Earth, Letterbox. and Wherigo.

  • While the park is open daily (with the exceptions of Christmas & New Year's Day), the operating hours change seasonally and gates are locked during closing times.

  • There are various hazards which include black bears, venomous snakes, poison ivy and other critters which may or may not be a problem for you while on your adventure. Prepare accordingly.

  • Geodogs (on leashes) are welcome to explore with you on this road, but are not permitted in the animal enclosure areas. Look for the signs to indicate those areas.

  • This cache and cache location has been placed with the full approval of the park director.

The cache is located on Indian Pipes Trail, which can be accessed a couple different routes. Please visit the related web page, or one of the links for the park, to plan your adventure. While out hiking with some good friends, this container practically jumped out of my pack as we passed this spot. Not far off the trail, you will be seeking a square lock'n'lock, camo painted and well marked as a Geocache. Please hide back as you found, or better. Enjoy yourself, and happy caching!
