Once upon a time, a geocaching log was written that said: "TFTC. Every sgl gate should have one. :)" I could not agree more. It sounded like a good idea for a possible series. This is Day Nine of the Christmas extension of the SGL gate series.
On the Ninth Day of Christmas, mrGreen317 hid for me, a red and silver bison hanging in an evergreen tree...
Happy New Year, 2018! By now most retailers have all but packed away any remnant of Christmas wares from 2017, however, the traditional Christmas season actually runs from December 25 through January 5, the "Twelve Days of Christmas". Here are some geocaches hidden for the "Twelve Gates of Christmas" (12 GoC) to grab this Christmas season or any other time of the year when geocaching is on the day's agenda.
This geocache is a large, red and silver bison container hanging on the branch of an evergreen tree at the given coordinates. It should almost be a park and grab, maybe with a little bushwhacking through spring and summer-time growth between the gate and GZ. Be on the lookout for some thorns around the evergreens near the gate. The second-closest evergreen on the left side was chosen over the closest because it had less thorns growing around it. The location is SGL 108 off PA-53, and even though the cache is near the gate, please exercise sensible precautions if hunters are in the area. During the peak hunting seasons, orange is required to be worn in SGL (except on Sunday, when there is no hunting).
Also, please do not park in such a way as to block the gate or the SGL road. There should be plenty of room to park in the space provided just below the gate (or even just off PA-53 if not wanting to drive up into the larger parking area in winter weather). Just be sure not to block the SGL road so that other vehicles will be able to get around yours if necessary.
Of course, since this geocache is a micro, please bring a pen along to sign the log.
Congratulations to KB3PPS and KB3PPR for the FTF while in the neighborhood. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Special mentions go to beans&franks who resisted signing this log after spotting the newly-placed container during some clever pre-publish-time gate scouting on Jan 1.
This geocache container will soon be getting a code card that will provide a clue to a Mystery/Puzzle cache to be published at the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas. Finders of the cache who log it before that information is added will be notified by geo-messenger of the needed puzzle clue once all the clues are added to the caches in this series.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from mrGreen317 and SageHippo!
Many thanks to SageHippo for providing the container used on this geocache as a gift to mrGreen317 this year.
