How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Geocaching: a recreational activity of hunting for and finding a hidden object by means of GPS coordinates posted on a website.

Genealogy: a recreational activity of hunting for and finding family history by means of websites  However, remember that all records created before the 1900s were handwritten, and very few of these have been scanned and made available online, (Making visiting a site such as this a gem).

An Event Cache is a gathering of geocachers, focusing on the social aspect of geocaching. Let's be social on a different kind of hunt, and it's highly likely a new geocache will be nearby too! Win/Win

2018

I have a goal to host more events this year, (all parts of Houston), that are entirely free, (this is the first one).

We will meet on Saturday, January 20th from 11am-11:30am.

Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research
5300 Caroline Street
Houston, TX 77004-6896

Items to bring:

  • Information about the family you will be researching that day.
  • Houston Public Library PowerCard or photo ID if you would like a library card
  • Sweater or jacket (it is often chilly)
  • Small bills for copies (we are unable to provide change)
  • Flash drive (saving from computer or microfilm is free)
  • Notebook or paper to take notes on

If there is enough interest, I will inquire for a Group Tour of the library, (note: time may change due to availability).

When RSVP'ing, please state if you have an interest in a Group Tour.

We can then share stories of our progress of interesting things we've learned/come across in our genelogical research and then independently retreat to different parts of the library for more exploration as the event concludes, (or simply go home if it's not your cup of tea :)).
