Geocache Description:

Another cache placed on or near the Tame Valley Way path in Mossley. This is a multi with a difference, the idea unashamedly pinched from https://coord.info/GC7CY16 in the local Broadbottom Bummel Series.

The starting coordinates take you to the gates of what was King George Fields, but is now known as Egmont Street Playing Fields. A large area of open grass, frequently used by dog walkers, but it also has football pitches and some children’s playground equipment. At the far end there are riverside paths that lead you onto the Tame Valley Way and Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

In the past the field has been used as the carnival ground for the no longer running annual Mossley Carnival, featuring a parade over a mile long with bands and floats representing groups from all over Greater Manchester. More recently it was used as a venue for Mossley’s Celebrate Festival which, at time of placing the cache, was last held on 20th August 2017, it celebrated the amazingly talented artists of Mossley and beyond.

To find the cache you need to find a Roman numeral and some dates on the stone gate posts at the main park entrance. Convert the Roman numeral into a decimal number, this gives you R and the dates give you ABCD-EFGH. As a checksum if you add all nine number together you will get 35. The final location is (G E D) metres away in a direction of (A R (B-C)) degrees. As the gate post has weathered badly I have added a picture to help out, see the gallery.

The route to the cache can be muddy and you will need to scramble up a steep slope, so take care particularly on the way down. The cache, has been placed at a magnificent specimen of the species. Please try not to leave a direct cacher’s trail to the hide. Thanks

Good hunting
