La Plaza de Toros De Don Benito se inauguró en abril de 2011. El cartel de la inauguración fue Enrique Ponce, El Juli y Miguel Ángel Perera y se lidiaron toros de la ganadería de Jandilla. El Juli indultó un toro ese día. En las primeras tres temporadas de su historia, por este coso han pasado importantes figuras del toreo y del rejoneo: Diego Ventura, Hermoso de Mendoza, Alejandro Talavante, Antonio Ferrera entre otros.
Dispone de cinco accesos y seis tendidos, tres de ellos de sol y tres de sombra. Desde 2003 ha sido el punto de encuentro para muchas familias que pasaban las tardes de sábado de un establecimiento a otro: restaurantes chinos y turcos, buffets, pizzerías, una bolera, salones recreativos, tiendas de ropa, cafeterías, multicines. Y en el turno de noche, la oferta de discotecas y pubs animaba a estar hasta altas horas de la madrugada.
Doce años después de su inauguración y tras 12 millones de euros de inyección inicial (exclusivamente privada), el templo de la diversión de las Vegas Altas ha sido víctima de la crisis. Del medio centenar de locales disponibles, solo siete están en funcionamiento. En el camino se han quedado multitud de negocios en los que no cuadraban gastos e ingresos. Otros casos están directamente relacionados con la especulación de inversores que vieron una oportunidad para colocar el dinero generado por el boom inmobiliario.
Una señal del declive del centro es que la empresa promotora del proyecto (Gabinete de Gestión de Inversiones S.L.) desapareció y que uno de los impulsores y dueño de la bolera, el salón recreativo y el parque infantil está «en la ruina».
