The first of the Auld Deid Railways series caches.
These caches have been placed along the routes of previous railway lines. Enjoy exploring the auld railways, and discover the tracks of the past.
Monymusk Station (approx 100m west of this cache) served the village of Monymusk, which lies nearly a kilometre to the north of the Alford line. It was opened by Alford Valley Railway on the 25th March 1859. Station House and Old Station Cottage, now residential, stand as evidence of the large steam bellowing iron horses that used to charge through this landscape. The station was a wooden structure, no longer standing, served by two platforms: one on the main line and one on a siding to the north. The line was conveniently 1 mile from Cluny Golf Club, established after WW1.
Like many at the time, Monymusk Station and the Alford branch line closed on 2nd of January 1950.
Please park carefully in the space by the bridge support leaving plenty room for large vehicles to pass and always be aware of traffic. The cache requires a bit of off-roading up the bank so check for traffic BEFORE you descend back to the car.
