Great Blue Heron is a kid-friendly cache. This is where the Great Blue Heron keeps his treasure! It is located in one of Roswell's great little riverside parks, at one end of the popular boardwalk. The cache is located between the end of the boardwalk and Willeo Park, a small but pleasant little area just before the Cobb County line on Willeo Road, on an inlet of the Chattahoochee River. The inlet looks almost like a small lake except for the small connection to the river in the distance. On the far side of the river is Bull Sluice Lake, accessible through the Gold Branch park entrance in Cobb County.
There is ample and easy parking. The cache is an easy but fun find for families, as it doesn't require any arduous bushwhacking. This is a good one to get your kids into geocaching.
Be sure to look for the Great Blue Heron that makes the inlet his home. He (or she? we don't know) is frequently seen standing out in the shallow inlet, quietly stalking fish and other tasty things. If you get lucky you might see him resting on a nearby branch some warm day, his wings outstretched to soak up the sun. Very regal looking.
