This cache is located on the Ngatoro Track, and can be accessed either by starting the track near Parking Area 1 and hiking up which is a 3-4hr hike return via the Egmont Visitors Centre, this track is Medium/Hard, with a lot of steep areas and a couple of small river crossings, I'd advise the fit and agile for this route. See mountain hiking guidlines below.
The other and easiest route is parking up at Parking Area 2 and find the Connett Loop Track sign, take a left and follow the Mangaoraka Picnic Area signs which will take you onto the Ngatoro Track (please dont be confused by the Ngatoro Loop Track) until you get to GZ. This walk will take 10min and is easy/medium (the medium being the walk back up gets the blood pumping)
You are looking for a 500ml camoed container, please re-hide well.
Plan and Prepare
Before you go please follow these 5 simple rules to help you stay safe.
1. Plan your trip, take a map/track brochure and remember to buy hut tickets for overnight stays.
2. Tell someone responsible where you are going and your estimated return time.
3. Beware of the weather! Check weather forecasts before you go.
4. Know your limits.
5. Take sufficient supplies and consider taking a personal locater beacon which are available for hire from the North Egmont Visitors Centre.
Weather on the mountain changes rapidly. You must be well prepared with suitable clothing and equipment for all weather conditions. Snow, high rain fall and storm damage can make tracks unpassable, many rivers and streams are unbridged. Check with the visitors centre for up to date track info.
