Het mooie Boekenbergpark verdiende naar mijn mening een cache! Het Boekenbergpark werd rond 1800 aangelegd door de kasteelheer van het kasteel Boekenberg. Het was een reusachtig kitschdecor, waar vandaag nog de Jagerstoren en het kunstmatig aangelegde grottencomplex van overblijven. Het is het grootste kunstmatig aangelegde grottencomplex van West-Europa, en in 1963 werd hier het Natuurhistorisch museum Boekenberg geopend. Dit kan je nu nog bezoeken, maar wel enkel op zondagen tussen 14u en 18u van half mei tot half oktober. De ingang van het museum ligt vlakbij de Jagerstoren. Volgens de legende leefden er vroeger kabouters in het park. De schedel van de laatste Boekenbergkabouter ligt in het museum. Het grottencomplex is ook een belangrijk toevluchtsoord voor vleermuizen.
Er komen veel joggers en wandelaars naar het park, dus pas op voor muggles! Zorg dat je de cache goed terug verstopt en dat hij zeker niet wegrolt!
The beautiful Boekenbergpark deserved a geocache in my opinion! The park was created around the year 1800 by the lord of the castle Boekenberg. Of the decor are some things left, such as the “Hunters’ Tower” and the artificial caves. The complex is the largest of artificial caves in Western-Europe. In 1963, the Museum of natural history Boekenberg opened in these caves. You can still visit it, but only on sundays between 2pm and 6pm from half of May till half of October. The entrance to the museum is close to the “Hunters’ Tower”. According to legend, gnomes used to live in the park, and the skull of the last gnome is in the museum. The caves are an important site for bats.
Watch out for muggles! Hide the cache well when you’ve logged and make sure it doesn’t roll off again.
