He had to leave. He kept having to leave. He thought he was save once he crossed the Tucoerah river, but they kept coming closer. He stayed at Yowie for a while, but had to flee to Burraneer soon. From there he was chased to Gunnamatta, where he hid in the south. Later, when the park was finished, he started living there. Hiding under a bridge, like a dark cave, like a real bunyip.
