Geocache Description:

A quiet road side cache between two lovely village, but please keep an eye on little ones and geohounds. Not a drive by, as there is no adjacent parking, although there is a lay by nearby. This Geocache was placed with the kind permission of the ‘Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket Parish Council’ and can be combined with other caches in the area. The container unscrews to open.

Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket are two of the most beautiful and peaceful of all the Lakeland villages, lying at the foot of the Northern Fells and just inside the Lake District National Park. The timeless character of the arae has been preserved as a conservation area where ponies, sheep, cattle and even ducks roam freely.

The area has lots of amenities and picturesque local walks of all standards; from easy strolls along the river side to the more strenuous nearby mountains of High Pike or Carrock Fell.

I am a massive rock music fan and aim to give clues to each of my caches with reference to one of my favourite bands: Free were an English rock band that formed in London in 1968. They became famed for their sensational live shows and nonstop touring. However, early studio albums did not sell very well until the release of their third album, featuring ‘that’ massive hit single; which was their breakthrough song and still remains a rock staple to this day. In the very early 1970s, Free became one of the biggest-selling British blue rock groups. By the time they retired in 1973, they had sold more than 20 million albums around the world and had played more than 700 arena and festival concerts, including the infamous Isle of Wight festival of 1970.
