Geocache Description:

HISTORY OF BASSO UNIVERSITY

This land was once part of the vast Basso Empire, founded by Augustus Basso XIV. He was a lover of learning, and founded the college that bore his name in 1795. The college was often called "Harvard West," due to its high academic standards. In fact, several senators and supreme court justices are alumni of "Basso U. "

Well, I'm sorry to say that the generations of Basso's were not all so diligent as Augustus. Ultimately, the college fell into disrepair, and the land was purchased by the Lynch family, and then the Solano Trust. Part of the sale required that Chancellor Basso's house be preserved.

The driveway you see here is the entrance to the Chancellor's estate. Please do not bother the Chancellor, as he might be grading papers.

After this find, be sure to visit Lynch Canyon, just down the road. That was the main entrance to the college, until just a few years ago. They have preserved many important historical sites from the college, including the library and the observatory. Plus, if you are an alumnus of Basso U, you can get a discount on parking.
